Ever have one of those moments where you just need to stop and reboot? I had that today. A small health scare (don't worry Dr. says I'm totally fine) made it so I couldn't sleep, then after a busy day of running on fumes, I went to take a nap when the painters started sanding my house. If you've ever had your house painted, then you know that the sanding part is not exactly quiet and doesn't make for a great nap environment.
Needless to say I was a bit cranky this afternoon. Yes, even a wide-eyed optimist such as myself can have a cranky moment or two. I hate that feeling of wanting to scream and cry at the same time. Ever been there?
Luckily I had a meeting planned with Amy, my Director of Marketing. She literally turned it all around for me. "It's all good" she said, "let's just do this....". Then she quickly made up an on-the-fly project plan, assigned steps to different people on the team and moments later I was reading an email of the plan she sent to the team - with assignments, deadlines and everything. It was awesome.
That one little thing completely turned my day from "I'm having a temper tantrum" to "ain't life swell". Oh and the call from my boyfriend inviting me to dinner didn't hurt either, but that's another story.
Anyway, it took me a few minutes to process, but what had happened was Amy just whipped out one of the 3 Essential Systems (project management) and used it to take back control of the situation. I always knew she was brilliant.
In fact, she actually got the whole team on the same page with just one short plan. Calming me down was really just a bonus. Oh and FYI, I did end up having time to take a quick nap in between sanding and dinner.
I'm a practice what you preach kinda gal, so it really shouldn't surprise me that my own stuff saved the day. But it was cool to look back and see how it calmed my mood and made me money.
The new series I'm personally teaching this month is all about this and the 2 other essential systems - because they work. So if you haven't seen the video or grabbed a spot yet then go now www.processprodigy.com/3essentialsystems .
The next temper tantrum you stop may be your own.
Take care,
Beth
