Thoughts from Sandye Linnetz, Systems Goddess, Process Prodigy

Have you ever heard about a great diet or exercise plan that comes with guaranteed results? Well, I'd bet that those results are only guaranteed IF you follow the diet or workout regimen. That seems fair, doesn't it? If you take on a plan, you have to work the plan, don't you? Diet and exercise programs ALWAYS work... if you work the plan.

A money back guaranty generally comes with the caveat that you have to agree to DO something, and if that doesn't work, then you get your money back. When it comes to systemizing your business, the same general rules apply. Having a great system design means nothing unless you follow the steps and work the system. It's in following the steps... having a commitment in place to do the work... that works!

So, what does it take to have results? To quote Tevya from Fiddler on the Roof, "That I can tell you in one word..." DISCIPLINE!

The dictionary definitions of discipline all seem to center around words like good behavior, orderliness, control, obedience, punishment, training, teaching, instruction, regulation, direction, order, authority, rule, strictness, routine, regimen, drilling. All of these definitions make sense for describing discipline, but, because most of them seem to be an end result from an outside source, they miss the mark for what I would like you to consider.

Here's my favorite "distinction" of Discipline: Doing what you know you should do even when you don't want to do it!

It's short, simple and direct. Discipline allows for "I don't wanna" and "I wish I didn't have to". Hey, we're human. We pretty much know what we SHOULD do, don't we? We almost never really "wanna". What this says to me is: Yo, Systems Goddess, I get it. You don't want to do this. Thank you for sharing. Now, do you want the result? Then it's all quite simple... just do it! (And there I go goin' all Nike on you again).

Got a system? Work it. Got a plan? Do it. That's it; it's really that simple. Anything else is a waste of time.

Who knows, maybe you'll even "wanna".
